Adventures in babysitting

I got home late this afternoon after babysitting overnight for Maggie and Kylie. I took Reta, our pug with me

because Stuart is farming and she dreaded being alone.( Code for maybe missing a feeding.)

Maggie was attending a big hair show and Kylie went along as an early anniversary get-away.

As I was unpacking my things I ran across Reta's IPad diary.

Yes, my dog has a diary. No, she doesn't have an IPad. We aren't crazy. She shares mine.

She's a good sport with the grands and I think her diary entry proves her commitment to be accommodating.

I thought I'd share it and give her a shout out. She doesn't know I read it so mum's the word if you see her.

Without further ado...

4:00 pm

I'm leaving the house. Are we going to the vet? God please, no!!!!

4:05 pm

Whew. No vet. I'm at Maggie's house. It's cool. I lived here after the house fire. I can handle this.

I'm back

Hey there! I'm still kicking. I can't believe how long it's been since I've visisted blogland!!!
Life is great. And busy, like yours is, I am sure.
I thought I would finally sit down and do a quick update.
We have had a few additions since my last post!
This was obviously at Christmas.
We added Juliette( Maggie and Kylie's) in July and twins Clark and Otto(Abbie and Zac's) in October.
That's a total of nine grands now.
It's so fun with all these little ones. Also, quite loud!
They are all growing way too fast!!
Aubrie is 9, Everett 7 and Ollie 4.

Caroline is 5, Pia is 3 and Jules is 9 mos.

Cliff is 2 and his baby bros, Clark and Otto are 6 mos.

Life spent with all these littles has filled my days with activities and laughter.
Also there's. been some other really fun, great things ...
Like Jackie getting remarried to a swell guy, Jim. I prayed God would send a man who would treasure her and love her well. He answered.

My mom is doing great. She turned 91 in March. She enjoys her life and still likes to have fun. She took up being a politician for Halloween this year!

Hilarious, isn't it?!
My family is healthy and I am blessed beyond measure.
So that's what's happening. I hope there's still a few of you out there who care. Haha
I'm actually working on my next post. Get the party hats ready!

When things get hairy..

I love shopping networks.
I should never ever ever watch them.
 (shout out to Taylor Swift)
I watch and I buy.
I have just received my last purchase.
The no!no! hair removal tool.

Now, one would think the name would be off-putting,
but I was all yes!yes! and ordered it.
I let it fully charge and gave it a trial run.
The good news is...
I am now hair-free in all the appropriate places.
The bad news is...
I reek of burnt hair.
Bi-winning.

Perplexity

Well, I am in a
bit of a quandary up in here.
After losing almost 45 lbs.
I am in desperate need
of some new bras.
The problem is
the over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder
is now going to be holding pebbles.
I am in possession of a couple of
Genie Bras.
They are not doing the job.
They give me a uni-boob.
I have made one trip to the store
and I tried on lots of styles and sizes.
I measured my circumference.
I measured it under the breastuses (as I like to call them)
and over them to get the cup size.
I should be a 34B.
I went prepared.
Epic fail.
I want a wider side and a cup that fits.
My cup either runneth over
or I had back fat squishing.
It is too hard of a chore.
Undress... try on 15 fuhreaking bras,
re-dress, re-stock my options and undress
only to do it 3 more times.
This is too much of a chore.
I can't care.
I don't want a salesperson helping.
Jackie was in tow.
She failed me.
I failed her.
We both left empty handed
and uni-boobed.
If you see me out and about
just remember where my eyes are
and keep your eyes focused there.
These hoohas are going to be one.
Literally...
one long, sideways, not-so bodacious tata.
Yep, I'm bringing sexy back.
It's how I roll.

Use It or Lose It Isn't Helping

I have come to the realization that I am not getting dumb.
I have already "got" dumb.
I have only one explanation...
my nemesis Dead Estrogen.
I used to be an intelligent person.
I received excellent grades with little or no effort.
I spoke well and I could back it up.
I knew stuff.
I knew where Persia was on the map.
I knew Persia was now called Iran.
Currently,
I am not sure I could fill in all the states on
a blank U.S. map.
Honestly...
Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut
it is all a blur.
I am forever saying words that sound similar
and mean nothing alike.
Last week, on this blog
I said edition when clearly I meant addition.
I do it all. the. time.
I have jokingly said I have the
vocabulary of a 4th grader.
In actuality, I have the vocabulary of
a dumb 4th grader.
ugh.
Last week I was talking to a friend...
yada yada yada
blah blah blah
(a skill I still master)
I was saying " I have a nice camera
but I don't use it much.
I like to be in the action and not the one behind it.
When I am taking pictures, I feel like I am missing the fun.
I need to take someone along to use it for me.
I am just not much of a picture taker."
 Seriously??
Picture taker.
Perhaps Janie, you mean photographer.
I have decided when I hire a photographer
to follow me around to document my life
I need to also hire a public speaker.
I am getting a really smart one too...
one who has a 6th grade vocabulary.
Dumb or not, I'm fancy like that.

Perspective in a Paper Cup

Sunday Maggie, Abbie, and I
loaded up early in the a-yem
and headed north to IKEA.
It is about 3.5 hours north of us.
Maggie needed some things
for the new house that is being constructed.
Abbie needed goods for her new chiro practice office.
I needed stuff wanted to go.
I am more of a flea market girl
but any chance to road trip with my peeps
is a treat I don't wanna miss.
Maggie got dishes, curtains, light fixtures,
a bathroom sink, and a sweet daybed for Caroline.

Abbie got some desk chairs, carts,
and desk supplies.
I got some  dish towels, kids' dishes,
and kids' toys.

We loaded up and headed to lunch about 2:30.
We found a Mongolian Grill
just around the corner.
You pick you noodles or rice,
meat, veggies, sauce,
dump it all in a bowl
and they cook it up on a huge grill
while you watch.
I was thrilled.
I skipped the noodles/rice
got chicken and lots of veggies.
I picked black bean and another sauce
that I thought looked
healthy and tasty.
Then you can add in spices.
I decided to put in a bit of red chile flakes
since I like a bit of heat.
I intended to sprinkle
and ended up with more of a dump.
Holy fire in the hole.
It was hotter than 7 hells.
I ate about half
while complaining the whole time
"why didn't I just get teriyaki?
I like teriyaki."
I may have gritched about it for most of the meal.
Mag's pal texted whole we were at lunch and asked if
we could get him a couple of lights
while we were at IKEA.
We said sure ...we would go back.
After getting his lights
I told the girls
I was getting a $1 frozen yogurt
to extinguish the raging inferno
going on in my cake hole.
We all got a drink
and Maggie got a cinnamon bun.
When leaving,
I wanted my picture by the sign.
I wanted to do that fancy photographer look
where it appears like you are holding something up.
Maggie balanced the cart and the refreshments
and Abbie tried to get a good picture.
It required me on tippy toes
and a few tries.

meh.
Not as epic as I had hoped.
You probably need a fancy photographer
and a fancy subject.
I can't care.
I may have looked like a dork
but lucky for me
I was not the only act.
There was a family
assembling an entire dining table,
 chairs and bed
in the parking lot.
I am not sure if they lived in their car or not
but if so, I am pretty sure they had too big of a bed.
I jest.
I am not sure what their plan was
but they had a mess of kids
and a small trailer behind their van.
It looked like an awesome cool time.
We headed south and I sipped my soda.
I don't drink diet pop much
so I thought maybe it didn't taste good
because I am not used to it.
I said " my pop tastes bad."
Maggie said "mine tastes like
it doesn't have enough syrup in it."
I said " yeah, you're right...mine tastes like too much carbonation
and not enough syrup"
Abbie said "mine tastes like
a comfortable American life with no real reason to complain."
Cracked me flat up.
Amen sister.
Amen.

Death by text

I have an Iphone.
She is a smart phone.
My very own Suze Orman.
Smart but annoying.
A smart phone who daily
makes me look like an idiot.
The autocorrect feature is something
I cannot get used to.
I am a texter.
Big time.
I am always flying around
like my hair is on fire,
therefore I love texting.
No time spent talking on the phone.
I can multi task and get even more done.
Truth be told I would probably
do a better job at everything
if I didn't try to do so many tasks at once.
It could be why I am always
finding things I have half-assed.
Like wiping out the fridge
only to come back in an hour
to find the bottle of syrup
on it's side with the lid partially open
on  a shelf that is not removeable.
Now that is a lovely surprise.
Especially when you haven't had pancakes in six months.
Even sweeter,
cleaning it all up
only to come back in an hour and step in a puddle of it
you didn't seem to notice.
But during all the syrup havoc I have
texted aprox. 23 times.
But I digress.
The moral of the story is autocorrect.
I cannot remember to look at my message before
I hit send.
I am sending dandy messages.
I told Abbie that
I was a toy train.
I have no idea what I was really wanting to say.
I text "fave" and it says "Dave"
and the receiver wonders who is Dave?
Every time I want to say "do"
the blasted thing says "Di."
Now I did love the Princess but
I have moved on since her death.
Stuart was putting up the ceiling
on Maggie's new house's porch
one really hot Sunday morning.
I went to church and he texted me
on  his ancient phone
the one and only text
that he always sends...
the only one he knows how to send...
"how u doing"
I was working in the church coffee shop.
I thought I texted back
"good, working at church."
But instead I texted back
"good, whoring at church"
Nice.
I have re-named my smart phone
Smart-ass phone.
She is killing me
one text at a time.

Like mother, like daughter and I need a hormone.

This past weekend there was a special event for our family.
My dad's youngest brother, Uncle Jimmy
 had a birthday.
His kids threw a bash to celebrate
his birthday on July 7th.
He was born on the 7th day of the 7th month.
He was the 7th son.
This year he was 77 years old.
Now that calls for a party.
Unless the number 7 scares you.

(thanks cuz, I stole this from facebook)

There was cake and ice cream.
I was a bit disappointed.
I thought there might be 7-layer salad and
 Seagrams's 7 and 7UP to drink.
Now that'd be a party.
I don't care where you are
there's nothing like the combination of
liquor, lettuce, and elderly relatives
to make a shindig come alive.
On second thought
cake and iced tea made more sense.

I took my camera and my grand daughter Penelope.

Her sister, Caroline had a date with her mom
to view the movie Brave.
I picked up my mom, Toots
and we headed out.
It was a cool 104 degrees.
We visited with the family and had a great time.
When I was about half way home my niece, Ellen called me.
She was supposed to give me a package
that I had asked her to bring to the party.
She remembered after we had gone our separate ways.
We both forgot about it even though
we discussed it before we got there.
We blamed the heat and our heredity.
After I got home,
my mom called and said I had left my cell phone
at the party and my cousin would drop it at Jackie's.
I busted out laughing.
I said "it isn't mine..you just called me on my cell."
She was tickled at herself
and went to call my cousin back.
I had to call Ellen and tell her
what a goof Mom was.
"Haha" we cackled at her silliness.
"We get it honest" blah blah blah.
"Oh and the heat, oh yeah" hehehehe
As soon as I hang up
Mom called again.
"It isn't your cell phone... it is your camera."
Craps.
Hello Pot, this is Kettle.
The bad news is I forgot to take pictures at the party.
The good news is I did remember the baby.

My review

In case you were hanging...
I got pills from the doctor.
My finger is healing pretty fast now.
I was a bit disappointed when my inquiry
of needed bed rest was denied.
He didn't deem it necessary.
Pfft  Dr. Chuckles.
In other news,
I have seen the Dallas premiere.
I have this to say.
1. Jesse Metcalfe is the new John Hamm.
2. Charlene Tilton...what the what? Same hair, same wardrobe...may not be working for her.

3. Regardless of Stuart's and by bff Michelle's insistence ...Larry Hagman is not dead. He is alive and kicking with mustaches above each eye.
4. I still want to live at South Fork.
5.  Linda Gray is 71. She is rocking the same hair and she is pulling it off. Weird teeth though... like me, she has chipmunk chompers. She could afford to have veneers though. To which I say why not spend that oil money??

If you don't have cable or satellite you can view at tntdrama.com.

The rest of my weekend is going to be busy.
A date with my farmer, hand holding with my dad,
and pool time with my grands.
I hope you have lots of fun in store too.
Have a great one friends!!

poor me

I missed the whole  Dallas premiere.
Me in my designer gown
and stuck on a live call-in class.
It is all comfy cozy waiting on me
in my DVR.
Tonight I hope to have the date.
If you got to view and you see me,
don't tell me anything...
even if I pursue it.
If you do, I will have to cut you.
Today I have a doctor appt.
I have a cuticle infection.
It is not lovely.
I had a hang nail,
then I gardened naked.
Well, my hands were naked.
I mean be real people.
Then, I scrubbed them with a nail brush.
 Saturday it looked red.
Sunday the unanimous diagnosis was ...yucky.
Everyone said go to the doctor.
Monday ...gross.
Tuesday I couldn't get in to the doctor.
Wednesday I couldn't go fit an appt. in.
So I may show up today and he will call me a wuss.
I can't care.
All the single ladies,
I wanna put a ring on it.
My  Dallas-inspired viewing gown begs for a bauble.
However, I cannot adorn this sick digit.
For those of you who have been saying
"Gee you have had a lot of sickness this Spring."
Yes, apparently my immune system is in my fat.
AND I have admitted to being a whino.
Tear my arm off
( and I tried washing windows, remember?)
and I don't complain much
Give me a paper cut and I will gripe.
It's how I roll.

Take a seat

You may need to sit down for this.
Okay you probably already are...
but for dramatic effect,
please pretend you had to sit down.
I am taking a week-long blogging break.
Under the doctor's  my coach's orders.
My fellow bootcampers and I are doing
the Screen Free Week challenge.
No screens from April 30th to May 6th.
No computers(unless for work),
no television,
and no phone except for "real"phoning.
I am not too concerned with no television.
I am not even worried about no facebook
but no blogging...arggg...
My head may explode.
I have so much to say at all times...
actually Stuart may want me to explode.
His ears may bleed.
Blessedly, most of the time
he will held as captive audience
 in a tractor cab.
Truthfully, he is about half deaf
so he welcomes my blather.
Fortunately for him Abbie, Annie, and Maggie live close.
They listen to me with rapt attention.
Doubters shuttie.
I can't care.
I thought about blogging in advance
and having the blogs auto post
but then I couldn't read your comments.
No way, they are too much fun.
I cannot miss them so I am going to go cold turkey.
I may go belly up.
I may wear an eye patch and walk with a limp.
I  may even become coherent.
Some of you may die,
but it is a sacrifice I am willing to make
because I am a stellar student.
I will do this task.
I really do think Coach may have a point.
No Screen Week is a good thing.
It gets families interacting...mine has no problem there.
It gets people active and off their arses couches.
It shows us where we waste time...
(where I waste your time?pffft)
I plan to re-work flower beds.
I plan to read more.
I plan to sit on the porch.
I also plan to clean nap in my little camper.
paint some chairs,
go to lunch with  friends,
do more of my bible study,
spoil my farmer,
and get ready for a rummage sale.
Hmm, I may need more than a week.
I can't care.
A week is the assignment.
After all, I have an obligation to my fans.
I will respond to your emails
when I return to flop at the computer.
I will be back in a week.
If not, just wait longer.
Next blog's forecast...
a few sprinkles of genius
with a good chance of stupid.
However, if there is a murderer/rapist on the loose
in my neck of the woods
or a tornado is coming my way...
someone please telephone me.
Carry on peeps but
remember me fondly.

The apple and the tree

On Abbie's blog she had this picture

I commented this...You are a big dill. I am always in a pickle.

She commented this.... Don't worry about being in a pickle ma. Things are kosher over here. Nothing has been to jarring so far. I look forward to helping ya on Thursday. I can't wait to chip in. I hope you are ready for me to clean windows. I'll be prepared, I'll be gherkin on finding my Norwex window cloth. I've really been in the cleaning spear-it lately. I really relish the feeling of a clean home...but I'll spear you the details. I'd hate for you to get jealous and have a chip on your shoulder... (I think I'm done here)

to which I commented this... Oh thanks Sis. I am not so much in a pickle as in a jam. I am a s(m)ucker for clean windows. I am just a tad worried though since the great fall of 2008 when I fell while washing windows and broke my shoulder. The subsequent surgery deal was jarring. The idea of me on a ladder turns my knees to jelly. Knowing you will be here to preserve my health is such a relief. You really spread the love. My worries are toast now.

To which she replied...
I can see the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I've really blossomed though, branched out and became much like you....but different. I hear people are very frond of us both. They are pine-ing for me. They find your blather ash-tonishing. I think they are intimidated by our sass, but our bark is worse than our bite. Better stop, before everyone gets tired of this schtick. They are probably sycamore puns. But then again, maple they should be reading somewhere else if they aren't into our puns. Life's a birch, we are just trying to keep it light, stay poplar. I walnut stop! Really...I better leaf it be. Don't want things to take a turn for the sappy, or a-corny. Oak-k with you?

To which I replied...
Puns are as American as apple pie. I think they are gala and golden delicious. I mean really anyone who thinks differently is just a crab apple. I would be Mc astonished if this didn't just catch on. People will be Granny Smith Green with envy. You know what they say when in Rome.

To which Kylie( Mag's husband) said...seems like your blog post is Claussen quite a stir.

To which Abbie said... That's why I love you. You never cease to amaze me. I bet people are Vlasic to their stomach that they are not part of our family.

I taught her everything I know.
She is stupid in a good way...We really need more to do.

Not my fault but then it is.

The missing book mystery
has been solved.
Annie came home from a dinner out with her bestie
and it was on her coffee table.
Jade said he found it in the middle of their floor.
What the what??
No one is admitting anything.
I chalk it up to them (Annie and Jade)
 being in cahoots against me.
I have yet found made time to read it.
Title...The Island
Author... Erin Hildebrand
All I could remember was a character named India.
I have been spending lots of time
"re-furb"ing things for my nephew
who has bought a house and is moving on Saturday.
He is Jackie's son.
He had nothing
but his bedroom stuff she gave him
 and a TV.
We junked and thrifted.
We have sanded, stained and painted
a big pile of junk good things.
I have some chair cushions to recover yet.
I should have taken before pictures but I didn't think of it.
I will take pics of the move IF
I remember to take my camera.
Don't count on it.
In other news, I spent two hours yesterday
taking Stella to the vet.
The diagnosis was bladder infection.
I knew it because there was pee
on the wood floor in the kitchen
and these girls never have accidents.
They have bladders like tanks.
I took them outside and tried to retrieve some pee
in a paper cup for testing.
Failure, as one could imagine.
Dumb plan... but I was a in a hurry.
They were on their way out when I thought of it.
I needed a disposable pie pan.
None up in here..boot camp going on.
She had no fever but they did an x-ray for stones.
She had a stone.
He mentioned a surgery possibly.
I vetoed that.
She is 13 years old, sleeps 23 hours a day
and has had 2 surgeries on her leg she broke
when Jade and Annie ran over her.
More evidence of their "cohootsion"
( I really should invest in a dictionary)
The surgeries failed to fix it.
I am not putting her through another.
We are treating her with antibiotics and different food.
The food is supposed to help with the formation of stones.
While in the waiting room,
I visited with a friend
who has a pug
and has had dogs from different litters
from the same mother as my pugs.
She told me to do filtered water.
Her pug had the same problem and
the filtered water ended it.
I gave two doses of the pills to Stella.
This morning I followed the "girls" in the yard.
Surprise... Reta is the one with blood in her urine.
This is the second time Stella has been falsely accused.
Now, I am treating Reta with Stella's pills.
My name is Janie and I am unfit.
If you want to get to know Reta...
she has her own label in my blog list of topics.
She is that good.
She deserves better.
But, she can't care.

Is it leprechauns or me?

I am in a quandary.
Someone or something is messing with me.
I have lost sleep the last two nights because of it.
I love to read but it seems forever since I have read for fun.
I have had homework for bootcamp.
I have read some self-help and nutrition books
that go along with what I am learning in bootcamp.
Last week though, I picked up a book
my niece Ellen had given me and started reading.
Usually I read in fits.
A few minutes here and there.
I either become obsessed with chores
that I remember I need to do,
phones calls to make,
or I go into a coma.
I don't do movies very well either...same problem.
Most of the time, I have several books going at once.
Every time I pick one up I have to do a quick review
to remember what it was about.
My kindle is full of half started books, also.
This particular book was pretty good.
I was about a third of the way in.
Friday I was off to Annie's to babysit.
I had my book and a new magazine
in my pile of stuff to take.
I had a tote with my healthy lunch and snacks.
I had my camera bag.
I had my purse.
I remember thinking
"I shouldn't take the book because I will
be too wrapped up playing with the kids"
but also thinking "well, they might nap."
I don't remember what my final decision was.
Later that evening I decided I wanted to read.
I couldn't find the book.
I looked in my car.
Annie said it wasn't at her house.
Maggie said she hadn't seen it.
The cleaning lady said she hadn't seen it.
I have searched my house.
I am a neat nik so it should be easy to spot.
It is not.
I have looked under my bed...
not logical since
I don't think I ever took it upstairs.
But then again...who can remember?
I have looked under and behind sofas
and under cushions.
I have looked in the laundry basket,
the trash, and the fridge.
(I once found my phone in the trash and the fridge.)
Shuttie critics.
Now I think I may just order it on Kindle.
The main problem with that plan is
when I do a search I cannot seem to find
The I Can't Remember The Title by Something What's Her Name.
Damn you Dead Estrogen once again.

Mrs. Dramatic is Back.

I survived what I now like to call
The Great Epidemic of 2012.
Seriously, I was so dang sick.
Fevers all week long.
I spent the majority of my days
in ugly combinations of
bad flannel pants, tee shirts, old man sweaters,
a much over-due for hair dye "do"
and one earth-quaking cough.
I resided here most days.

 but it looked like this

 for days and days.
On Friday afternoon my fever was gone.
I finally got to see the grand kids on Sunday.
That was the worst part.
I missed them so much.
I didn't work out but I did keep up
with all my bootcamp assignments,
my reading, and my food logging.
I stayed on the food plan,
over simplified... 40% carbs, 40% protein, and 20% fat.
I had to make myself eat most times.
My stomach had a bug too.
In the old days, I would have suffered with
ice cream and buttered toast.
I compromised with whole wheat toast(no butter)
and Greek yogurt.
Blessedly, I am down a total of 10 pounds
and anxious to resume
 more vigorous workouts.
Until my lungs clear up,
I am told by my coach to
keep my activities low intensity and low minutes.
I tried ignoring Coach
and nearly coughed up my left lung.
So I guess it pays to heed that advice.
I watched a show on Netflix
while I was down.
Land Girls, Season 1.
I am in love with it.
Now I have to wait for Season 2 and 3.
It is a BBC program
and I cannot figure out where to watch it
for free in the meantime.
Can anybody help a girl out?
You'd be the berries. :)
