Birth, choice and practice.

In my quiet time today
I was led to study about sin.
We were born sinful.
It is hard to grasp.
A tiny baby born into sin
but the Word says it is so.
"Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time
my mother conceived me" Psalm 51:5
Then as I grew, I became a sinner
by my own choice.
I make the decision to
tell a lie, to gossip,to rage, or to covet.
I deliberately choose
to be unkind, unforgiving, or prideful.
I decide not to serve.
With practice,
sin gets easier and easier.
Actions like
greed, anger, pride, and
envy gets comfortable and effortless.
The more I practice
the smoother it goes the next time.
It becomes old hat.
I may justify sin by claiming
no one is hurt.
But someone is always hurt.
God is hurt by my sin.
He is offended.
Any sin is a revolt against God.

It is true for all of us.
The answer is to bend my knees,
asking for forgiveness and praising
His name.
I can't do it on my own.
My flesh is strong
but my God is stronger.
His compassion and grace
is new every morning.
Awesome.
Nothing I do
will take away his love for me.
As Easter nears
the knowledge of what he sacrificed for me
weighs even more heavily
on my mind.
Jesus died on that cross for my sins.
I can't imagine the pain or
even worse the feelings he had
when he took on all our sin.
He who was sinless took all our sin
and died so we would have eternal life.
That is amazing.
It is almost beyond understanding
but I know it is the truth.
His Word tells me
and the Holy Spirit tells me,
this is true.
I don't want to take it for granted.
I want to relish in the facts.

"For it is by grace that you have been saved,
through faith, it is the gift of God-
not by works, so that no one can boast"
Eph.2 :8,9

"For it is with your heart that you believe
and are justified, and it is with your mouth
that you confess and are saved"
Romans 10:10

The power to grow doesn't come from us,
but from God.
He allows us to partake of His divine nature
in order to keep us from sin
and to help us live for him,
because we don't have the reserve
to be truly godly.
His Word tell us this truth.

His divine power has given us
everything we need for life and godliness
through our knowledge of him
who called us by his own glory and grace.
Through these he has given us
his very great and precious promises,
so that through them
you may participate in the divine nature
and escape the corruption in the world
caused by evil desires.
2 Peter 1:3

One of my favorite scriptures:

Whoever has my commands and obeys them,
he is the one who loves me.
He who loves me will be loved by my Father,
and I too will love him and show myself to him."
John 14:21

I am a filthy rag and undeserving
but He loves me with an unending love.
He loves you like that too.
What a great feeling and
what a wonderful reassurance
to have that promise.
In a world where many
would prefer to ignore God
I choose to be loyal
to God's truth
and to his way of life.

  2. Rejoicing in the truth this morning, Janie! (That 2 Peter 1:3 verse is where I got the title for my blog! It is SO reassuring to know that as a child of God, I have been given EVERYTHING I NEED to live for Him and keep from sinning! I just HATE it when I sin. :(

  3. Thanks for this. I gave up coffee for Lent. stupid. stupid. stupid. But every time I want some (nearly every sec), it makes me refocus on The Lord's love and grace for me and my sins. Maybe I could just read this post everyday, instead..? ;-0
