End it!

I am on the campaign
to end the use of the R word.
I hope you will join forces with me.
The R word is the word
retarded.
People use it carelessly
I used to, then my good friend, Esther
got a grandson with special needs.
I adore him.
Next, my great-nephew was born
with special needs.
He is so amazing.
I stopped using it haphazardly.
And then, God sent us Ollie.
I am in love with this most special baby.
Now the word really wounds.
Retarded is a hate word.
It is a disparaging word.
This word generalizes a group of people
who cannot be generalized.
This word does not describe
Brett, Zavier, nor Ollie.
Let's make a concerted effort
to stop using this contemptuous word.
It is hurtful and malicious.
Please go to the link
to join the campaign
to wipe out the use of this
offensive term.
Let's be an accepting,
  and understanding people.
Let's love up on each other
and show the world
an example to follow.

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because
I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in a secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Psalm 139: 13-15

Amen Sister! I never use the word and can't stand it when I hear someone else use it. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. People ought to know better. Go get 'em tiger!

I agree Janie....along with words like stupid..you are a bad girl or boy...etc. We really need to watch our words around young ones...they pick up everything somewhere in their young minds...adults should know better...but sometimes we need to bring it to their attention.

The old "sticks and stones can break my bones but names can never hurt me" is just not true!

I'm with you 100%, sister. I've been in education 24+ years. The "R" word still lives in "bully world". Believe me....pity the bully who utters such and THIS principal learns about it!!!!!! (Yes, it needs a LOT of explanation points)
