Horsing around.

  • I went to a horse auction in Amish country with Mom, Dad and Jackie today.
  • Unfortunately, Maggie had my camera because she had a niece born last night and wanted to borrow it. I missed some great photo ops. I used my Blackberry and they were not good.
  • I could have bought a number of horses or mules for anywhere from $20 to $40.
  • I used to sell pug puppies for $400.
  • Jackie and I agreed we were glad it wasn't a dog auction b/c we would have been in trouble.
  • I grew up riding ponies and using  pony cart every day in the summer.
  • When I was in college my oldest part pony/part horse died. Trixie was 26 years old. She was black and white.
  • There was a black and white mule I wanted badly. I would have named her Trixie.
  • There were several small ponies that would have fit in Mom and Dad's van.
  • I texted Stuart "should I bid?"  He thought I was serious.
  • When Ollie is old enough to use a pony for therapy. I will hook her up.
  • When I was in high school I played in a donkey basketball game. My donkey laid down and wouldn't get up. I just couldn't get my ass in gear. It was a blast.
  • There was a chunky cowboy showing several of the horses. He had a "sweet" ponytail. I told Jackie "there you go, I think he is single". She said " Obviously". Ha.
  • Every time we go to lunch Dad tries to give the waitress a $100 bill. First when the salad comes and then when the drinks come.
  • Today, I put gas in their van and he gave me $5.
  • He tried to pay for my niece's gas yesterday when she filled her Suburban.
  • Dad does make me laugh. He has an antique cultivator in his yard. When I took him to town yesterday we drove past it and he said "I sure wished I had a cultivator like that in my yard." I laughed and told Mom "Well , dreams do come true."
  •   They had a great day and Jackie and I had one too.

This cracked me up and is just what I needed on this gray, weepy day. Better than crackin' a bottle.

that's so funny! made me miss my daddy, before he died he would loose his mind for a few minutes here and there, i'm not making fun, just the facts, my hair is long and my sisters is real short, he would think i was her or she was me and he'd say "get your head on right" then we'd swap places and he'd say "okay then" haha, he was a mess (in a good way)i guess he thought we swapped hair?? who knows...

So much fun in this post.

I'll tell you one on my grandma. She was 56 when I was born, and she must've been quite a woman *cough* because I swear to you, I can't remember a time she didn't have hot flashes. So a year or so ago--she's 93, now--she was having a hot flash, and she looked up and said: "I don't know what's wrong with me. I've never had this happen to me, before." Everyone in the room got a good laugh out of that one...

ADVANTAGES of HORSES over HUSBANDS

If they don't work out you can sell them.

They don't come with in-laws.

You don't have to worry about your children looking like them.

You never have to iron their saddle pads.

If you get too fat for one you can shop for a bigger one.

They smell good when they sweat.

You can repair their "clothes" with duct tape.

It's possible to keep them from "jumping the fence".

You can force them to stay in good physical condition...with a whip if necessary.

They don't want their turn at the computer.

They turn white with age, but not bald.

They learn to accept restraint.

They don't care what you look like, as long as you have a carrot.

Your horse will not think a new pair of shoes every month is excessive

Your horse will be glad of the company if you go shopping for another one, and your friends will approve of you keeping more than one, as this is more natural.

Girl, your Dad is a riot! $5.00 for gas money cracks me up. I grew up riding too and miss, miss the appaloosa we had when the girls were little. Apache loved Pepsi, watermelon and spaghetti... really!

Bless your heart, your post made my day or night I guess I should say. We just need to laugh when we can, every day is different. We don't know what's ahead. It's been a rough summer.

I bet your Dad had a great day. We take my in-laws on quite a few road trips when we go to our son's hockey games. My husband drives, my father in law in the passenger seat and my mother-in-law, myself and our son in the backseat. My in-laws are both over 80...when they say something off the wall I see my husband eyeing me in the rearview mirrow with an amused smirk on his face, it is good entertainment....

Gah - you are brave to hit up the horse auction (I just cry and beg to bring all the poor things home).

Congrats - I snorted several times through your post... unladylike for sure!

Trixie is the best name in the world. I had a guinea pig named Trixie Marigold, when I was growing up. (My mother suggested Marigold, but I wanted Trixie, because I was a huge Trixie Beldon fan) So yes, when you do get a pony you must name it Trixie.

And.. you probably need a mini-pony. Take two, they're small!

I can't believe I've never played a donkey basketball game.

How have I missed so much?
