Honoring Mom

Today was really special.
My Mom's church was having their Spring rally
on Friday night and Saturday.
Mom was being honored for her years
of service in women's ministry.
But, she didn't know it.
They had a meeting Friday evening
and my daughter, Abbie( the chiropractor)
spoke about food and nutrition.
My niece, Ellen stayed with Dad so Mom could attend.
I white-lied and told Mom I was invited
because of Abbie's involvement
but could only go Saturday.
I picked her up this morning.
My sister, Judy came to keep Dad occupied.
We went to the morning session
and then had lunch.
They were announcing
Hall Of Fame inductees
after the meal.
Jackie was coming to the award part,
but I didn't want Mom to figure it out.
I told her I invited Jackie but she was busy.
I said she might try to show up.
My sister,Linda had grandkids
so Mom didn't think anything about it.
Jackie got there just  in time.
I was afraid Mom knew since I had my camera.
I white-lied there too and
told her I was taking pictures for her.
Jackie had just come in.
Mom was happy to see her.
We sang a few songs, listened to a speaker,
then it was time for awards.
I was a nervous freak.
Oh, but she was surprised.

She did the ugly cry.
I took blurry pictures because I was doing
the ugly cry also.
I saw Jackie blubbering too.

I am so proud of her.
She loves our Lord.
She has been married 70 years.
She raised 5 kids and put us through college.
She was always an excellent example of
what a wife, mom, daughter, friend,
and a Christian should be.
She was/ is fun.
She is my greatest cheerleader.
She is one of my best friends.
I love her to the moon and back!

Isn't she the cutest 87 year old going?
She was so touched and so thrilled.
She kept telling us how surprised she was.
She received many hugs and much love
from the other attendees.
I am so happy I could be there.

She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

What a special honor. Obviously well-deserved.

BTW...for someone who "blathers" you did great keeping it all a secret!

How wonderful that your Mom was honored in such a way. And that you were able to keep it a surprise! Not many people can say they have been married (to the same person, yet!) for 70 years, just lovely. Ann
