My dad

(Fall 2011)
Monday night my dad went home to Heaven.
He was surrounded by his family.
We held his hands, stroked his face,
prayed for him, told him how much he was loved
and then watched him leave his earthly shell
and join our Heavenly Father.
We are joyful that his long ordeal with Alzheimer's has ended.
We are sad, but rejoice in the knowledge
that he is healed and in the arms of Jesus.
Please keep our family
and especially our mom, Toots in your prayers.
With the holiday so close
and a cousin's wedding over the weekend
services are delayed until
Sunday and Monday.
Visitation is Sunday 4-7 p.m.
Funeral is Monday at 11:00 a.m.
at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home
in Shelbyville.

Janie, Would you mind posting your mother's mailing address? I'd love to send her a card. And KNOW that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure your family gathering(s) will be sweeter, closer, richer & stronger than ever during these holidays.

I was thinking about you just yesterday. I am sorry about your father passing. My father, I most likely told you, had this disease as well. I felt "peace" when he left us. I felt he was so much better then. It is always hard but I am hoping that you feel that peace. (((((HUGS)))) and Prayers.

Oh Janie, I'm so sorry for the loss of your Dad, but rejoice with you in the knowledge that he is in heaven now! I love the picture of him that you started this post with- I think it speaks volumes as to the kind of husband and father he was!
Be kind to yourselves and I'll be praying!

Janie, my heart goes out to you and your family. I lost my mother to cancer in February and know all too well the heartache of losing a parent but the relief that they are in a better place. My 19 year old cousin was taken off life support yesterday after 6 months of being in a coma from an accident involving a drunk driver. So our Thanksgiving is both thankful and sad as well. May you find peace and happy memories fill your mind during this time. I'll light a candle and say a prayer.

My very deepest sympathy, Janie. There's just something about losing a loved one around the holidays that seems worse than any other time. My mom unexpectedly passed away four days before Christmas six years ago. You can at least take comfort knowing that he's with our heavenly father.

My friend, I am so sorry. You've been on my mind this week, and now I know why. This journey is not easy, but do-able because of Jesus.
"dear Jesus, what a grand time there is in heaven! Wow. I thank you for that fact. But the family on earth is heartbroken and most likely dazed. Wrap them up in Your arms of peace, endurance and love. Help the decisions needing to be made to come gently. And Lord bless Toots and her broken heart. Strengthen her and comfort them all. In Jesus Name, Amen."

You only have to do this one minute at at time Janie. Breath in, breath out, and be kind to yourself, rest when you can. Much love, Janet

Janie~
My sincere condolences. So sad but happy for him. No more suffering. Having something like this happen so close to the holidays makes it all the more difficult. I just learned that my Aunt is being admitted to hospice today.
Let us all be thankful for what we have & keep each other close.
Much love & prayers go out to you & your family.
Hugs,
Maria

what a beautiful picture of your father. i am so, so sorry for your loss, janie. alzheimer's is a terrible disease and i hope you'll remember your father as he was before it came on. i sit here, the day after thanksgiving, looking at the single rose i still buy at holiday times in remembrance of my own father's death from the same disease. i miss him still, but am convinced that he's living a better life in heaven than he had at the end here on earth. keeping you and your family in my prayers. ~chris
